Maximize The Life of Your LED Work Lamps with These Tips
1. Every VSM LED work lamp is designed to dissipate heat from the body of the lamp during operation. In order for the aluminum body to efficiently release excess heat, it is important to keep the lamps clean and free of mud, dirt, and road grime. If an LED work lamp is not cooled, a build-up of heat will cause the the diodes to dim while being used and will ultimately shorten the life of the lamp.
2. Under normal driving conditions, polycarbonate lens are incredibly hard to break. Polycarbonate, though, is manufactured to be soft and flexible in order to absorb impacts. The use of harsh chemicals for cleaning the lens is not recommended. Use only a mild detergent solution and lint-free cloths to avoid scratching or eroding the lens.
3. Voltage spikes in your vehicle's electrical system can destroy sensitive light emitting diodes (LEDs). It is highly recommended that all connections be insulated with a non-conducting material such as electrical tape to avoid shorts between positive and negative leads.
4. The listed dust and waterproof IP ratings are for the LED work lamps only. A waterproof connection requires the use of insulated connectors in order to retain the listed IP rating.
5. It is important that VSM's LED work lamps only be connected to an electrical system with an in-line voltage regulator. When LED work lamps are installed on an application without a voltage regulator, they should be disconnected before performing any electrical maintenance, including jump-starting a vehicle. As well, providing the LED work lamps with a voltage over time well below the stated minimum can harm the onboard LEDs. If voltage is critically low, it is advisable to disconnect the lamps until the system is charged to full voltage.
6. An inline fuse should always be used when connecting the LED work lamps to the electrical system of a vehicle or on heavy-duty machinery. This fuse will provide an extra layer of protection in the event of short-circuit.
